Accreditation
is Effective Substitute for Regulation - AMC Study
A new report released the non-profit American
Council on Education (AMC) has endorsed accreditation
is an effective substitute for institutional regulation.
Many countries are moving away from governmental policy led
supervision to a system that inspires and builds confidence
for self-regulation by the institutions, a cause which SEAA
had supported from its inception in India.
The report, Assuring Academic Quality in the 21st Century:
Self-Regulation in a New Era, considers the central characteristics
of accreditation and outlines common criticisms of the process.
It then offers six major recommendations for steps colleges,
universities and regional accreditors can and should take
to ensure accreditation meets its public accountability responsibilities
given the enormous diversity of American higher education.
